 | | Description: | The places visited in this film range from the icy slopes of the Jungfraujoch, approached by the highest railway in Europe, to the tranquility of Lake Thun, the imposing waterfalls of Trummelbach and the distinctive French, German, Italian and Romansch regions of the country. The music for this tour of Switzerland is by Franz Schubert, a composer who spent his life largely in his native Vienna. His famous 'Unfinished Symphony', the two movements of which were written in 1822, were not performed until 37 years after Schubert's death, when the manuscripts were discovered at the home of Schubert's friend Anselm Huttenbrenner. The music continues with Schubert's 'Fifth Symphony', written in the space of a few weeks in 1816, when the composer was nineteen."Switzerland - A Musical Journey" is a DVD production by NAXOS Audiovisual that combines breathtaking images of Switzerland's landscapes with carefully selected classical music. The film takes viewers on a visual voyage through majestic alpine panoramas, serene lakes, historic towns and picturesque villages, accompanied by orchestral works that reflect the calm, grandeur and variety of the Swiss scenery. Rather than following a traditional narrative with dialogue, the DVD presents a continuous visual-musical experience, making it ideal for relaxed viewing, background ambience or as an introduction to both Switzerland and the world of classical music. The production is designed to appeal to lovers of travel films as well as classical music enthusiasts who appreciate high-quality image and sound.
NAXOS Audiovisual is part of the broader NAXOS group, internationally known for its extensive catalogue of classical music at an accessible price point. Over the years, NAXOS has built a strong reputation for high recording standards, close collaboration with renowned orchestras and up-and-coming artists, and an educational focus that makes classical music approachable for a wide audience. Its audiovisual arm transfers this philosophy to the screen, creating visual journeys and concert recordings that showcase both music and locations in a clear, unpretentious way.
The participants in "Switzerland - A Musical Journey" include experienced filmmakers and production staff who specialise in marrying classical music with high-quality landscape cinematography. Their work focuses on precise visual timing, so that cuts, camera movements and changes of scenery are closely aligned with musical structure, dynamics and mood. Although individual performers, directors or ensembles are not specified here by name, NAXOS productions typically feature carefully chosen recordings from their catalogue, performed by established orchestras, chamber groups and soloists who have contributed to the label's international success. The creative team behind the camera brings extensive experience in travel and cultural documentaries, ensuring that the film captures both the grandeur and the subtler, intimate aspects of Switzerland's natural and cultural environment. | | | Director: |
